Batam Travel Guide

BATAM · KEPULAUAN RIAU · INDONESIA

Plan your Batam getaway.

Choose your ferry terminal, find an area to stay, and plan time for food, shopping, beaches or a spa. Start here for a Batam day trip or a longer visit from Singapore.

Start with the kind of Batam trip you want

Batam is in Indonesia’s Riau Islands. A useful plan begins with one choice: spend your time around the city for food and shopping, choose a resort stay, or set aside a day for a trip beyond the main urban areas. Match your arrival terminal to that choice before booking transport.

A city break

Use Nagoya, Batam Centre or Harbour Bay as a starting point for choosing a hotel and nearby places to eat. Compare actual addresses rather than relying on the word “central” in a listing.

A slower resort stay

Compare beach access, room type, activities and transfers. A resort holiday works best when you allow time to enjoy the property instead of adding a long list of city stops.

A weekend itinerary

Pick one main activity for each part of the day, add a meal nearby and leave room for traffic, rain and your return ferry check-in.

Singapore to Batam ferry: choose the terminal first

Singapore departures include HarbourFront and Tanah Merah. The right combination depends on your destination in Batam and the sailings offered for your dates. Compare the outward and return legs separately: a convenient arrival terminal may not be the terminal on your return booking.

Check the final amount for the direction, travel date and ticket class you select. Compare one-way and return fares carefully, including terminal charges and fuel surcharges. An advertised base fare does not necessarily equal the total you will pay.

Keep the time difference in mind. Batam uses WIB (UTC+7), one hour behind Singapore and Malaysia. At 10:00 in Singapore, it is 09:00 in Batam. Follow the departure terminal’s local time shown on your ticket.

Travelling from Malaysia or elsewhere in Indonesia?

For a Johor departure, check Stulang Laut/Berjaya Waterfront and the Batam destination shown by the terminal. Use our Malay travel guide for planning from Malaysia. If you arrive through Hang Nadim Airport or a domestic port, arrange your ground transfer around that arrival point; the Singapore ferry schedule does not apply.

Things to do in Batam

Food & shopping

Build a city outing around a meal and a shopping stop. For seafood, ask whether the menu price is per portion or by weight, and confirm taxes or service charges before ordering.

Barelang & the coast

Keep a trip beyond the city as a separate part of your itinerary. Choose the exact destination, check its access arrangements and plan how you will get back.

Spa & resort activities

Compare treatment length, the current menu, booking conditions and inclusions. Check resort facilities directly; access for overnight guests and day visitors may differ.

Batam day trip or 2D1N weekend?

  • One day: choose a compact city plan with food, shopping or a pre-booked activity. Work backwards from your return ferry’s check-in deadline.
  • Two days, one night: use the first day to settle in and explore one area. Choose one main outing on the second day, with enough time to return for departure.
  • Three days, two nights: separate a city day from a resort or coastal day. Keep some flexible time for weather and activities that need advance booking.

These are planning suggestions rather than a timed tour programme. For a fuller day-by-day outline, see the Batam weekend itinerary from Singapore.

Budget and arrival essentials

Build your budget from return transport, terminal charges, accommodation, local transfers, meals and activities. Record whether a price is per room, per person, per vehicle or per treatment. Compare currency conversion and payment fees before deciding how to pay; Indonesia’s currency is the Rupiah (IDR).

Check entry requirements for your passport nationality and travel purpose at the official Indonesian Immigration portal. Living in Singapore does not by itself determine visa eligibility. Follow the official guidance for the All Indonesia arrival declaration for international arrivals.

If you need halal food, confirm the individual restaurant or stall, its certification and its ingredients. A seafood menu or a food-court location alone is not enough to establish halal status. Check dietary needs directly before visiting.

Questions before your first visit

Which ferry terminal is best for Batam?

Choose according to your hotel address, planned activities, sailing availability and ground transfer. Compare Batam Centre, Harbour Bay and Nongsapura rather than treating every terminal as interchangeable.

Can I visit Batam without staying overnight?

A day trip can suit a compact plan. Confirm both ferry legs and check-in deadlines before booking activities, and allow time for immigration and transfers.

Does this website show live ticket inventory?

No. This is a travel guide. Use the linked ferry operator or ticket provider to see available sailings, current prices and booking conditions.

How much does a Batam trip cost?

The total depends on dates, transport, room choice and activities. Use current quotes for each component instead of assuming an advertised one-way fare is the price of a return trip.
